Transparency
Governance & ownership
The Wing Society is a privately owned brand, run by a group of people. The Wing Society operates a community-led listings database featuring chicken wing restaurants, takeaways, bars and food trucks.
Free for businesses and users
The basic listing and services of The Wing Society are free for all. We list chicken wing businesses for free, allow businesses to create their own profiles, respond to user reviews and comments and upload pictures for free. We also allow users to register completely free of charge. We make no expectation on businesses to pay for featured content.
How we earn money
Honestly, we don’t earn any money from this website or service. We make no charges for any of our service.
+ Featured content
We provide featured content for free. Featured content posted to our social media channels will use #AdFeature in the main body of the post. We will only choose to partner with businesses that we have tried ourselves for featured content. Featured content is not a paid for service however we are selective in whom we pick.
+ Featured listings
Sometimes we may choose to award a business a “Featured Listing” tag which promotes their business by placing it at the top of search results on our website. We also run a “Featured Friday” social media post across our social channels. We do not charge m any businesses or expect any free items from businesses that are offered a “Featured Listing”.
We do not take fees for reviews
We do not charge for reviews, nor do we expect to eat for free. We often eat wings incognito, paying our bill with our own money. We also do not permit editorial rights to the business being reviewed.
If we have a bad experience we will often provide this feedback to the business direct and then decline to publish a review as we firmly believe this is better than posting a negative review. We may accept the invitation of a complimentary meal following a negative experience so we can provide a re-review, however this is solely at the business’ discretion and we make no expectations.
Integrity
Community guidelines
We allow users and vendors to post content on our website in accordance with our community guidelines. Any content that breaches our guidelines, or subject to a legal demand, will be removed without warning. We may also choose to ban users and vendors from our platform if repeated breaches are made. We welcome open conversation but will not tolerate defamatory, indecent, offensive, profane, discriminatory, misleading, unlawful or threatening comments and behavior.
User reviews
Users are free to leave reviews on any listing we have published on our website. Reviews are moderated before being posted and assessed against our community guidelines and we use automatic software to filter potential spam reviews. Vendors are permitted to publicly reply to reviews and we remind vendors that replies must also comply with our community guidelines. We do not edit user reviews however automatic filtering software may mask profanity or external links by replacing the posted letters with asterisks (*).
+ Reported reviews
Users and vendors can report a review if they believe our moderators have made a mistake and published a review that breaches our community guidelines. Reported reviews are looked at by a member of the team and if we see that it should not have been posted, it will be removed and deleted. We permit negative reviews as we want the community to share their genuine feedback about a vendor and the star rating of a review does not factor in our decision to permit or delete a reported review unless we can see a genuine mistake (example: a user posts a 1-star review but there is positive sentiment).
One rule for all
We apply our policies consistently to all users, vendors and businesses. We do not breach our policies for anyone or for payment.
